Muscat – The Oman Film Society (OFS) concluded a 10-day workshop on artificial intelligence in filmmaking, providing aspiring filmmakers with practical skills to transform creative ideas into cinematic productions using the latest AI technologies.
Held from July 7 to July 16, the workshop, titled ‘AI Filmmaking Workshop: From Idea to Screen Using Modern AI Technologies’, brought together 22 participants, including members and non-members of the OFS. The programme was open to Omani citizens and residents interested in exploring the intersection of filmmaking and AI.
The intensive training covered the entire AI filmmaking workflow, from developing story concepts and writing cinematic prompts to generating realistic characters, creating high-quality visuals, producing AI-assisted video sequences and editing complete films. Participants also learned about camera movement, cinematic composition, lighting techniques, environmental design and storytelling using modern AI tools.
The workshop introduced participants to a variety of AI platforms, highlighting that each offers distinct capabilities for different production needs. Practical sessions included the use of widely recognised tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Magnific, alongside other specialised AI applications for filmmaking. The programme also examined the growing AI ecosystem, including free and subscription-based platforms catering to creators ranging from beginners to professional studios.
By the end of the workshop, participants had produced original AI-generated visual content while gaining a deeper understanding of how AI can enhance every stage of film production without replacing the filmmaker’s creative vision.
Mohammad Al Kindi, director of the workshop, said, “Artificial intelligence is transforming the filmmaking process, but creativity remains at the heart of every successful production. Our goal was to help participants understand how to choose the right AI tools for their projects and use them effectively to tell compelling visual stories. We hope this workshop inspires a new generation of filmmakers in Oman to embrace these technologies while preserving their artistic identity.”
