10 Apr 2025

Muscat – The Public Prosecution has convicted citizen Talal bin Ahmed bin Ali on charges of participating in an unlawful gathering and broadcasting news and statements that undermine the prestige of Oman. The court delivered its ruling on Thursday, April 10, 2025, corresponding to 11 Shawwal 1446 AH.

The accused was sentenced to one year of imprisonment and a fine of OR 500 (five hundred Omani riyals) for his involvement in the offence. Additionally, he was sentenced to another year in prison for broadcasting rumours that posed a threat to state prestige. The court ordered that the two sentences be served concurrently, with the more severe penalty being enforced.

The case began with an investigation by the Public Prosecution, which concluded on April 7, 2025, after confirming the accused’s involvement in the crimes. The court also issued an order to publish the judgment and required the accused to cover the court expenses.

This ruling serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of participating in actions that threaten public order and state security.
