APSR introduces new rules to safeguard consumers from electricity disconnections

24 Feb 2025

Muscat – Dr. Mansour Talib al Hinai, Chairman of the Authority for Public Services Regulatory (APSR), addressed concerns about electricity service interruptions during a media meeting today. He highlighted new regulations designed to protect consumers from unnecessary disconnections. Under these new rules, electricity services cannot be disconnected on the last working day before weekends or official holidays, ensuring service continuity.

Additionally, no disconnections will be allowed between 5pm and 7am, safeguarding consumers during evening hours. Furthermore, electricity disconnections are prohibited during the General Education Diploma (GED) exams and throughout the month of Ramadan, in line with the official schedule.

In 2024, APSR took action to support affected consumers, providing a total of RO 60,000 in compensation to those impacted by service interruptions. These measures underscore APSR’s commitment to consumer protection and maintaining fair service standards.
