Muscat – Oman has announced the provision of a temporary shipping transit corridor in the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

According to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the initiative reflects Oman’s responsibility towards the Strait of Hormuz and its importance to the global economy, while reaffirming the sultanate’s commitment to international law and the Law of the Sea to ensure freedom of navigation.

The ministry stated that the corridor will be provided without imposing any tolls and comes in line with efforts and understandings reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Under the arrangement, vessels will have the option of using the temporary maritime corridor defined by coordinates announced by the IMO and Omani authorities. Ships wishing to transit through the corridor are required to coordinate with the IMO.

The announcement underscores Oman’s continued efforts to support international maritime trade, strengthen navigational safety and contribute to regional and global economic stability through constructive cooperation with international organisations and stakeholders.
