Muscat – Sprinter Ali Anwar al Balushi has secured a place in the 20th World Athletics Indoor Championship to be held from March 21 to 23 in Nanjing, China.
The achievement follows a strong performance at Meeting de Paris Indoor, part of the World Indoor Athletics (Tour Silver), where he clinched gold in Men’s 60m on February 9 clocking 6.53 seconds.
Speaking about the challenges faced in the lead-up to the qualification, national coach Fahad al Mashaykhi emphasised the fact that it came after tough training and hard work. “There were some technical weaknesses earlier in Balushi’s performance, which were addressed and resolved through dedicated training.”
In January, Balushi secured a silver medal in the Men’s 60m event at Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan, finishing with a time of 6.60 seconds, earning him a place in the golden category of the competition.
Balushi’s commitment to improving his global ranking and preparing for future major competitions has been evident through his regular participation in international events. He dedicated his latest success to his family and Ministry of Culture Youth, and Sports.
Looking ahead, Mashaykhi shared plans for more preparations, including an internal training camp in Oman to ready Balushi for the world championships in China, as well as for the World Athletic Championships in Japan in September.
