Oman wins gold at 2024 International AI Competition in Dubai

Dubai, UAE – The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education, has secured the gold award at the 2024 International Artificial Intelligence Competition, organised by the Dubai Quality Group. The prestigious event recognises excellence in institutional quality systems across the Gulf and international levels.

Oman’s winning entry showcased the executive programme for artificial intelligence in school education, which includes a structured plan for capacity building and AI integration. Key initiatives featured in the submission include:

  • Training certified AI trainers and obtaining international AI driving licences.
  • Equipping teachers, school administrators, and specialists with AI skills.
  • Developing AI policies and guidelines for schools.
  • Enhancing technological infrastructure, including interactive whiteboards and AI-equipped laboratories.
  • Integrating AI concepts into curricula and promoting scientific research in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair for AI Research.
  • Establishing the Artificial Intelligence Observatory and launching a digital awareness channel.

The evaluation process involved multiple stages, including a thorough review of the submission, a visual presentation, a Q&A session, and the provision of supporting evidence on AI integration in education.

The award was received by Dr Faisal bin Ali al Busaidi, Director General of the Directorate General of Information Technology at the Ministry of Education, during a ceremony in Dubai under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum, Honorary President of the Dubai Quality Group and President of the Civil Aviation Authority.
