Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – His Excellency Jassim Mohammed al Badawi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has reiterated the bloc’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability, urging comprehensive political and economic reforms to help the nation overcome its ongoing crises.
In a phone call with Lebanon’s Foreign Minister, Abdallah Rashid Bou Habib, the Secretary-General discussed the outcomes of the GCC’s 46th extraordinary session of the Ministerial Council, which focused on developments in Lebanon. Al-Badawi emphasised the importance of joint efforts to strengthen Lebanon’s stability and ensure prosperity for its people.
He called for the full implementation of international resolutions, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement, to restore lasting security and stability in Lebanon. The Secretary-General also stressed the need for the Lebanese government to assert its authority across all territories and maintain respect for the nation’s territorial integrity and sovereignty within internationally recognised borders.
The discussion highlighted the GCC’s commitment to continued regional and international cooperation to support Lebanon and enhance security and stability in the region.
