CPA suspends trading of Miniverse game due to safety concerns for children

30 Oct 2024 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), has issued a decision (No 770/2024) suspending the circulation of children’s toys under the brand ‘Miniverse’.

This action is taken due to the product’s inadequate safety precautions, as it contains a chemical liquid substance (resin) that can cause skin sensitivity or irritation to the eyes and respiratory tract if inhaled, touched, or ingested.

According to Article I of the decision, violators will face penalties as prescribed under the Consumer Protection Law, including an administrative fine not exceeding RO1,000. For repeat offences, penalties will double, and persistent violations may incur an additional daily fine of up to OR50, with a maximum cumulative fine of RO2,000.

Article III mandates all relevant officials to enforce this decision immediately. Following the decision, CPA has begun implementing the directive, issuing instructions to all divisions, directorates, and departments across the governorates.

Necessary measures are underway to withdraw the product from the market, with law enforcement officers conducting inspection campaigns to ensure compliance and the removal of the product from all retail locations.
