26 Mar 2024 Oman Air responds to issue of trainee pilots

Muscat – In response to discussions on social media about the future of Omani trainee pilots, Oman Air has clarified to set the record straight. The national carrier emphasised its ongoing commitment to fostering local talent in the aviation industry.

According to a statement,  the airline had previously welcomed 86 candidates into a training programme designed to equip them with the skills needed to achieve a commercial aviation licence.

This training spans over a 24-month period. It was made clear that completion of the programme did not automatically guarantee employment within the company, irrespective of the candidates’ success.

To date, the programme has seen 34 trainees successfully complete their course, with another 52 still undergoing training. The airline recently offered employment contracts to 21 of the 34 graduates and is eager to extend similar opportunities to the remaining 13 graduates.
