Muscat – The Ministry of Education (MoE) on Sunday launched a special programme for North Batinah to identify and nurture talented students from various schools within the governorate.

The ‘Tharwa’ programme is targeting students from 23 schools to be selected over four days, an official informed.

“The third edition of the programme targets 731 male and female students from the governorate’s schools, chosen to achieve various goals, including keeping pace with the global trend of nurturing gifted students and harnessing their abilities and potentials,” said Zamzam bint Amer al Amriya, Head of the Special Education Department in North Batinah Educational Centre.

Zamzam added that the nurturing of talented students follows clear scientific foundations that evaluate their abilities across scientific, skill, and creative aspects.

The programme was designed to form a national team and train its members to identify gifted students.

The national team would recognise students with high mental abilities related to creativity and innovation, by determining their intelligence and creativity levels.

This assessment helps in understanding the needs of gifted students and creating specialised enrichment programmes to support them both inside and outside school based on their degree of creative intelligence in various fields.

In its second edition last year, the programme identified 483 students from 12 schools.

This year, it has expanded to include more schools and a greater number of students.
