Muscat – The Ministry of Information organised a workshop on Provincial Media at Grand Millennium Muscat on Sunday.

The workshop aimed to find solutions to the challenges facing the media in the interiors of the sultanate and identify enablers to facilitate them.

The workshop was held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of H E Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harassi, Minister of Information, governors and representatives of several institutions and those directly involved with the media.

H E Harassi stressed that Provincial Media constitutes an essential element of the media ecosystem in Oman and feeds content daily from across the country through audio, visual, print and electronic channels.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Information is committed to empowering all governorates through effective communication and media participation, and that “the media forms a bridge linking the efforts of the governorates to the broader segments of society”.

The workshop focused on four main themes – the Role of the Ministry of Information, the Role of Institutional Media based in offices of governors and government departments, the Role of Private Media Agencies, and the Role of Community Media and Voluntary Media Initiatives in Governorates.
