Muscat – A dance team calling itself Royal Beasts represented the sultanate at the recently concluded World Hip Hop Dance Championship held in Phoenix in the American state of Arizona.

Royal Beasts competed in the Varsity Division of the championship.
Although it did not qualify for the finals, team members described representing Oman on the world stage as an ‘award’.

Speaking from the US, Nadeem al Balushi, one of the directors of the group, said, “This is the first time ever that Oman was represented at this world famous competition. We gave a tough fight and our moves were appreciated by judges as well as peers. We have won hearts and that is a great achievement and an award in itself in our first outing on such a big international stage. However, we need to work more.”

According to Balushi, the championship offered the team an opportunity to learn new techniques.

Royal Beasts was ranked 32 among 46 teams from around the world. The team of 15, including managers, coaches and dress designers, left for the US on August 1. The performers include five girls and four boys.

Team leader Tejas Udani Gupta informed that Royal Beasts was the only team from the Gulf. “We put up a fairly tough fight. The other teams were better than us and they deserve to win. This competition has pushed us to work better. With more practice and determination, we will surely rock the next time.”

Royal Beasts’ performance was choreographed by Prasanth Shinde, and directed by Shiv Gupta and Nadeem al Balushi.
