Muscat – The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) launched the month-long Aman 2 national awareness campaign in Salalah on Sunday under the slogan ‘Awareness is Everyone’s Right’, aiming to strengthen public awareness of human trafficking, promote prevention and support victims.

Held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the launch was attended by H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in the Foreign Ministry and Chairman of the Committee.

The campaign features a series of programmes, events and awareness activities targeting different segments of society. It focuses on helping people identify indicators of human trafficking, understand prevention measures and learn about channels for reporting cases and seeking assistance and protection.

Brig Jamal bin Habib Al Quraishi, Director General of Criminal Investigation and Inquiry at Royal Oman Police and Vice-Chairman of the committee, said the campaign builds on the work of last year’s Aman 1 – Safety for Every Human campaign.

He stressed that awareness is a key tool in protecting people from exploitation and human trafficking, noting that people who understand their rights are better equipped to protect themselves and others.

“The knowledge of one’s rights, the ability to recognise methods of exploitation, and familiarity with channels for seeking protection and assistance constitute the first line of defence against human trafficking,” he said.

Brig Al Quraishi reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to preventing human trafficking, protecting victims and safeguarding their dignity and rights, while strengthening cooperation and coordination among relevant institutions.

He said Aman 2 seeks to ensure its message reaches all sections of society, citizens and residents alike, with the aim of reinforcing the principle that prevention begins with awareness and protection begins with knowledge.

Maryam bint Ali Al Shehhi, Rapporteur of the committee, said safety is a fundamental right and that creating a safe society requires awareness, community cooperation, individual responsibility and institutional partnerships.

“Awareness is not a privilege, but a right,” she said, emphasising that a conscious and cohesive society is a strong safeguard for protecting people and upholding their dignity.

The campaign also saw the launch of ‘Wall of Hope’, a digital platform allowing members of the public to post messages of encouragement and support for victims of human trafficking.
