British Council resumes IELTS testing in Oman

16 Jun 2020

This comes on the back of local health authority and government guidance and will see the testing centres adhere to a number of health and safety precautions to protect both staff and candidates.

Test takers and staff may not attend the test if they are under a quarantine, self-quarantine, stay-at-home or medical surveillance order, as specified by the local authorities. They will also not be able to attend if they have a high temperature, persistent cough, difficulty in breathing or other flu-like symptoms.

Precautionary measures in place include temperature screening at the test venue, ensuring staff and test takers always stay two metres apart, and the use of face masks, which must be worn by both staff and candidates.

Speaking ahead of the reopening, Mrs Helen Mehta, Country Director, British Council Oman said: “I am really pleased to be here on our first day of resuming IELTS testing in Oman. Our top priority is the health and safety of our candidates and staff, so we’ve adapted our operations in Muscat to meet the recommended government guidelines.
“After carrying out a thorough risk assessment we looked at how physical distancing measures can be implemented. This meant increasing cleaning and hygiene processes to minimise the risk of contamination. We will keep reviewing these precautions as the coronavirus situation develops.”
She added”We recognise this has been a difficult time for many of our IELTS candidates, and we’re very happy to be part of their learning journey again.”.
