24 Mar 2020

Port of Salalah has achieved an all-time record annual container volume of 4mn TEUs (twenty-foot-equivalent units) during 2019.

This new milestone comes within the framework of the continuous endeavour of the Port of Salalah to develop and enable Oman’s logistics sector. The port’s operational success helps enhancing diversification of the national economy and contributing to placing the sultanate within the global economic map.

Mark Hardman, CEO of Port of Salalah, said, “Despite the challenges faced by the port during the past year in reducing its operating capacity due to the aftermath of Cyclone Mekunu, the port managed to accomplish many achievements in restoring all its services and recovering the handling volumes that were redirected to other ports in the region. The port managed to achieve volume growth of more than 19 per cent compared to the last year.”

He pointed out that the adoption of the N4 high-tech terminal operating system (TOS) enabled the port to raise its productivity.
