24 Nov 2025 SQUH achieves historic medical milestone By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) has reported a significant medical triumph following the successful completion of the first transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) procedure in Oman. The ground-breaking operation, which occurred on November 24, 2025, positions SQUH’s University Medical City as only the second specialist centre across the Middle East to successfully implement this sophisticated technique, utilising the latest generation LuX Plus valve system.

The intervention was spearheaded by a distinguished national cardiac team, including Dr Fahad bin Abdullah al Kindi, Senior Consultant and Head of Interventional Cardiology, and Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Ismaili, Associate Professor and Head of the Catheterisation Department. This accomplishment underscores the expertise of Omani medical professionals in handling advanced interventional technologies. This development is set to enhance the University Medical City’s mission to localise modern therapeutic options, providing precise solutions that substantially reduce the requirement for complex open-heart surgery. It further cements SQUH’s reputation as a leading regional specialist in advanced catheter-based valve treatments, bolstering the national standard of specialised healthcare services.
