Muscat – In a step that underscores Oman’s commitment to strengthening its healthcare infrastructure, the Government of the Sultanate of Oman has signed a financing agreement with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to support the construction of the new Samail Hospital in Dakhliyah.

The agreement was signed by H E Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Omani government, and by Walid Shamlan al Bahar, Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

The new Samail Hospital aims to provide advanced medical services to residents of Samail and neighbouring areas through a modern, fully equipped healthcare facility.

The hospital will have an initial capacity of 170 beds, expandable to 300 beds, spread over a building area of 65,804sqm within a total site area of 250,000sqm.

The facility will include specialised medical departments, state-of-the-art equipment, and advanced treatment units designed to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services. It is also expected to help reduce the burden on referral hospitals in nearby governorates.

Officials said the project reflects the government’s broader vision to develop a world-class healthcare system in line with Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises comprehensive and equitable health coverage across all governorates.

Beyond improving patient care, the project will create opportunities for the training and upskilling of Omani medical and nursing professionals, enhancing local expertise in various medical specialities.

The Kuwait Fund’s contribution marks another milestone in the longstanding partnership between Oman and Kuwait, which has seen numerous development initiatives in sectors ranging from education and infrastructure to health and social services.
