Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman continues its steadfast diplomatic efforts to defuse the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, following a wave of unprecedented regional tension triggered by Israel’s recent military actions against Iranian targets.
Reaffirming its principled stance, Oman has reiterated its firm rejection of military escalation and violations of national sovereignty. The Sultanate has stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward resolving the crisis and averting catastrophic consequences that could destabilize the entire region and reverberate globally.
As part of its outreach, Oman’s Foreign Minister, H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi , held separate phone calls on Wednesday with his counterparts from Russia and China. These calls form part of a broader series of communications with brotherly and friendly nations aimed at restoring calm and encouraging a return to negotiations. The discussions focused on the urgent need for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Sayyid Badr emphasized Oman’s view that Israel’s actions constitute aggression, contravene the United Nations Charter, and undermine recent diplomatic progress, including U.S.-Iranian talks aimed at curbing nuclear proliferation.
In his conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, both sides agreed that the military escalation poses grave threats to regional and international peace. They underscored the need to avoid targeting nuclear facilities to prevent the potential dangers of nuclear radiation. Lavrov expressed his country’s deep appreciation for Oman’s mediation efforts and reaffirmed Russia’s support for dialogue and political solutions.
Meanwhile, in his call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Sayyid Badr found strong alignment on key issues. Wang condemned Israel’s strikes on Iranian territory as a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter. He also praised Oman’s proactive diplomatic role, reiterating that the nuclear issue must be addressed solely through peaceful negotiations.
Both ministers echoed Oman’s position that there is no military solution to the crisis and called for an early ceasefire to create the conditions necessary for constructive dialogue.
Oman’s balanced and principled diplomacy continues to be widely recognized in international circles, as it seeks to prevent further escalation and restore stability in the region through peaceful means.
