North Batinah – 49 agreements worth RO 1,192,016 were signed in North Batinah Governorate for the restoration and maintenance of 64 aflaj ground water systems that suffered damage during the recent Al Masarrat low-pressure system.

The signing ceremony took place under the auspices of Mohammed bin Suleiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Batinah, with the attendance of Eng. Nasser bin Ali Al Marshoodi, Director General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate, alongside other officials.

Eng. Nasser Al Marshoodi stated that these agreements follow ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources to maintain the smooth operation of aflaj, which serve as a critical water resource directly connected to agricultural sustainability and community well-being.

Furthermore, Al Marshoodi noted that the broader maintenance scheme covers 76 aflaj in total, separating repairs into 12 slated for the first phase and 64 designated for the second phase, highlighting this initiative as a major investment in water infrastructure that underscores the economic, social, and environmental significance of aflaj across the governorate’s wilayats.
