Muscat – Oman and Mexico marked the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations on Tuesday by unveiling a commemorative logo to highlight the depth of their partnership.

H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in Foreign Ministry, said the bilateral ties – formally established on July 31, 1985 – have fostered cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres. He expressed Oman’s interest in further developing relations with Mexico across multiple sectors.

“We share values rooted in mutual respect and understanding, which have laid the foundation for a lasting and fruitful partnership,” H E Harthy said.

H E Aníbal Gómez Toledo, Ambassador of Mexico to Oman, described the relations as distinguished and reiterated his government’s commitment to expanding cooperation in broader and more diverse areas.

He praised Oman’s diplomatic efforts in promoting peace and stability and its role in resolving international issues. He said Oman has become a model for conflict resolution through dialogue and tolerance.

The ambassador also appreciated Oman’s role in securing the release of crew members from the Galaxy Leader vessel, including Mexican nationals, and ensuring their safe return.

H E Toledo said the 50th anniversary offers a timely opportunity to define new goals for bilateral cooperation, including enhancing trade, promoting tourism, launching academic exchanges and expanding scientific research initiatives.

In a joint statement, both countries noted the importance of regular political consultations and cultural exchanges in strengthening mutual understanding. They reaffirmed their determination to expand cooperation based on shared interests and the long-term benefit of both peoples.
