Muscat – Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) has issued crucial safety guidelines for individuals engaging in mountain hiking and related activities.

In a statement, CDAA highlighted the importance of caution amidst Oman’s breathtaking landscapes and challenging terrain.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable hiking experience, the authority advised hikers to follow safety instructions, ‘choosing a trail suitable for your fitness level, familiarising yourself with the trail beforehand, informing your relatives about your route and location, wearing appropriate tracking gear and checking the weather forecast before heading out’.

The authority added that there are ‘important requirements’, including hikers should carry emergency gear (such as a tent) for unexpected situations, illumination tools (headlamp/flashlight), and pack extra clothing, nutrition, sufficient water, matches, lighter and a candle.

Hikers should also use sun protection (sunscreen, hat and sunglasses) and have navigation systems (map and compass) and carry first-aid supplies.

The authority also asked hikers and mountaineers to register their details on the NIDA app prior to venturing out on any adventure trip.
