Muscat – The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR) revealed that from April 14 to 17, a staggering 179 million cubic meters of rainwater inundated 49 dams, fortifying them against flood hazards.
Eng Nasser bin Mohammed al Battashi, Director General of Water Resources Assessment, highlighted the remarkable transformation of several key dams. Wadi Dayqah Dam in wilayat of Quriyat, stands as a testament to this rejuvenation, reaching its full capacity of 100 million cubic meters. Meanwhile, across Amerat, lower Wadi Al Sarin Dam recorded 1.07 million cubic meters, and its upper counterpart captured 0.373 million cubic meters. Notably, Al Khoud Dam in the wilayat of Seeb amassed 9.822 million cubic meters, heralding significant water security.
Dhahirah Governorate witnessed a similar surge, with Al Salif Dam in the wilayat of Ibri reaching its brim at one million cubic meters. In Buraimi governorate’s Mahdha region, various dams, including Animal Dam and Abu Qalaa, experienced substantial fillings, ensuring sustained agricultural productivity.
North Sharqiyah governorate also benefited, witnessing the resurgence of Al Qabil’s dams. Noteworthy figures include 0.82 million cubic meters in Wadi Nam Dam and 1.42 million cubic meters in Al Wariyah Dam, underscoring the region’s resilience against water scarcity.
In Dakhliyah governorate, Wadi Ghul and Imti Dams witnessed significant inflows, reinforcing the region’s agricultural potential. The south witnessed similar fortunes, with Al Farra’ Dam in Rustaq Wilayat and Al Hawasna Dam in Al Khaboura reaching full capacities, ensuring sustained water availability.
The Protection Dam in the wilayat of Sur in South Sharqiyah governorate recorded a full capacity retention rate of 22 million cubic metres.
