Muscat – The population of Oman reached 5.36mn in 2025, an increase of 91,500 compared to the previous year, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

Of the total, 3,040,000 were Omanis and 2,320,000 expatriates. Population density rose to 17.3/km² in 2025, up from 17/km² in 2024. Muscat governorate recorded the highest density at 383.1/km².

The sex ratio among Omanis stood at 101 males per 100 females in 2025. Among expatriates, the ratio was significantly higher at 284 males per 100 females.

Life expectancy at birth for Omanis reached 77.5 years in 2025.

The total fertility rate among Omani women was 2.8 births per woman, compared to 0.7 births per expatriate woman. The crude birth rate among Omanis increased to 20.8 births per 1,000 population in 2025, up from 21.2 births per 1,000 in 2024.

The crude death rate among Omanis declined slightly to 2.4 deaths per 1,000 population in 2025, compared to 2.5 deaths per 1,000 the previous year.

Infant mortality improved, falling from 8.0 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2024 to 7.4 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2025. The under-five mortality rate decreased from 9.9 to 9.1 deaths per 1,000 live births over the same period.

At the wilayat level, Bausher recorded the highest expatriate population at around 347,500 in 2025, accounting for 78.1% of the wilayat’s total population. Seeb had the highest Omani population at approximately 284,300.
