Southern runway of Muscat airport refurbished

30 Oct 2023 Southern runway of Muscat airport refurbished By

Muscat – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced completion of refurbishment and extension work of the southern runway at Muscat International Airport. Earlier used when the old airport was operational, it is now being readied for aircraft movement.

CAA confirmed that the runway has been refurbished as per set safety requirements and regulations for aircraft to commence landing and takeoff. Aerodrome certification will include physical inspection of the runway and taxiways by CAA regulators on behalf of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

In addition, updated charts with the new airport layout will be published and sent to all airlines for their pilots to use, so that they are aware of the revised facilities before they land.

Parallel to a phase of operational readiness testing and commissioning of new equipment, instrument landing and meteorological systems tests are ongoing in coordination with the airport operator and other service providers. Simultaneously, Air Traffic Controllers at the airport are familiarising themselves with the new setup and procedures for the operation of two runways.

Commencement of activities on the new runway will be published as soon as operational readiness and the certification process are complete.
