Nizwa – Ministry of Health held a ceremony in Nizwa on Thursday to celebrate Nizwa Hospital being awarded the prestigious “Baby-Friendly Hospital” title. This recognition follows the hospital successfully passing the final evaluation for the global Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative and meeting all necessary international standards. This accomplishment is the result of over three years of dedicated effort by the Directorate General of Health Services in Dakhiliyah Governorate to improve maternity and childhood services. The initiative focused on training health staff and increasing public awareness regarding the vital role of breastfeeding in enhancing the health of both mothers and infants.

Dr Ali bin Zayid Al Busaidi, the Director of Nizwa Hospital, emphasised that this accreditation represents a significant step in improving the quality of local healthcare services. He noted that Nizwa Hospital is now the fourth medical facility in Oman to receive this title since the programme was reactivated. Dr Jumana bint Ahmed al Abdawani, Head of Child Health in the Directorate General of Primary Healthcare of the Ministry of Health, added that this international accreditation reflects a commitment to providing every child with a healthy and safe start in life. The celebratory event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Mahmoud bin Rashid Al Saadi, the Wali of Nizwa, and featured a visual presentation on the hospital’s achievements along with the honouring of staff members who contributed to this success.
