Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has invited bids for completion of the remaining work of the Adam-Haima-Thumrait dual carriageway linking Muscat and Duqm to Dhofar.

The road will bypass congested residential and commercial areas, making it a faster option to connect the wilayats of Dhofar.

In a statement, MTCIT said, ‘The ministry, in coordination with the Secretariat General of the Tender Board, has floated a tender for the remaining work of third, fourth and fifth phases of the Adam-Haima-Thumrait Road.’

The ministry confirmed that Omani and Saudi companies registered with the Tender Board can bid for the project.

The last three phases – third, fourth and fifth – of the 400km road project will be a strategic Oman-Saudi collaboration, according to H E Said bin Hamoud bin Said al Ma’awali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

He explained that completion of the dual carriageway jointly by Oman and Saudi Arabia will strengthen existing Oman-Saudi strategic partnership, open new opportunities for the private sector in the two countries, enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences and knowledge.

He informed that the ministry has completed the first two phases of the project constituting 280km, starting from the wilayat of Adam in the Governorate of Dakhliyah to the wilayat of Haima in the Governorate of Al Wusta.

The 132.5km Phase 3 of the carriageway runs from Haima to Maqshan. The 135km Phase 4 will connect Maqshan to Dokah via Qatbet, while the 132.7km Phase 5 will begin in Dokah and end in Thumrait.

At 717.5km, this is the longest road infrastructure project in the sultanate. It will facilitate economic activities and serve Special Economic Zone at Duqm and onshore oil fields. It will also contribute to economic and tourism activities along the carriageway and in Dhofar.
