H M Sultan Haitham’s historic visit to Egypt begins

Egyptian President Sisi leads welcoming party that greeted His Majesty the Sultan upon his arrival in Cairo

Cairo, Egypt – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik arrived in the Arab Republic of Egypt on a two-day official visit on Sunday.

When His Majesty the Sultan’s plane touched ground at Cairo International Airport, President Abdul Fattah el Sisi of Egypt headed the welcoming party that greeted His Majesty the Sultan at the foot of the ramp.

Also present at the reception were Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, and members of the Embassy of Oman in Egypt. Then, His Majesty and President Sisi headed to the Hall of Ceremonies, passing between two rows of the Egyptian Republican Guard.

After a short rest at the ceremonial hall, His Majesty the Sultan, accompanied by President Sisi, boarded a motorcade that took them to Al Ittihadiya Palace, flanked by a group of motorcycles from the Egyptian Republican Guard. There, an official reception ceremony was conducted in honour of His Majesty the Sultan.

Upon arrival of the two leaders’ motorcade at the main gate of the palace, trumpets were sounded and a group of horsemen lined up, while the artillery fired a 21-gun salute.

Then, the Egyptian President accompanied His Majesty the Sultan to the dais of honour, where the Omani Royal Anthem and the Egyptian Republican Anthem were played. After that, His Majesty the Sultan, accompanied by President Sisi, inspected a Guard of Honour, which saluted His Majesty.

After that, souvenir photos were taken of His Majesty the Sultan and President Sisi.

His Majesty the Sultan shook hands with dignitaries from the Egyptian side, including Gen Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production, Sameh Shoukry, Foreign Minister, Maj Gen Abbas Kamel, Head of General Intelligence, Dr Hala el Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr Mohamed Moait, Minister of Finance, Dr Assem al Jazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities (Head of Mission of Honour), Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, Khalid Radi, Ambassador of Egypt to Oman, and Ahmed Fahmy, Spokesman of the Presidency.

President Sisi also shook hands with members of the Omani delegation accompanying His Majesty the Sultan.
