Muscat – The sultanate will celebrate Omani Women’s Day on October 17, under the theme ‘She is Oman’, highlighting women’s achievements, their contributions to national development and their role in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future.

The theme reflects the diverse capabilities, ambitions and achievements of Omani women, recognising them as essential partners in the country’s progress. It also highlights their contributions to economic diversification, environmental protection and the sustainable use of national resources, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

More than a slogan, ‘She is Oman’ celebrates the connection between women’s identity and the nation’s heritage, present and future. It recognises women as a source of talent, innovation and resilience, whose expertise and participation support development across vital sectors.

The occasion reflects the continued support extended to Omani women by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, who has emphasised their role as partners in building the nation and advancing its development priorities.

A significant development this year was His Majesty’s directive to allocate an additional seat for Omani women in the Majlis A’Shura from each governorate, providing 11 additional seats alongside those open to general competition. The measure aims to strengthen women’s representation across the governorates and expand their participation in discussing national issues and contributing to policymaking.

Women’s contributions to community development have also been highlighted through visits by the Honourable Lady, spouse of His Majesty the Sultan, to the Oman Women’s Association in Khasab in January and its counterpart in Salalah in August 2026.

The visits showcased community initiatives and women-led projects that transform traditional knowledge and practical skills into opportunities with social and economic value. They also highlighted the role of women’s associations in developing skills, supporting handicrafts and encouraging productive enterprises while preserving Oman’s cultural heritage.

This year’s celebrations place particular emphasis on women’s contributions to three strategic sectors: energy, the environment and minerals.

In the energy sector, Omani women contribute to activities spanning oil and gas, electricity, renewable energy, hydrogen and clean technologies. Their participation supports economic diversification and the transition towards more sustainable energy systems.

In environmental protection, women contribute to conserving natural resources, safeguarding biodiversity, conducting research and developing solutions to environmental challenges. Their work supports efforts to balance economic development with environmental sustainability.

The minerals sector offers further opportunities in exploration, mining, processing and related industries, enabling women to contribute to the development of value-added industries and the effective use of national resources.

Together, these sectors demonstrate the expanding opportunities for Omani women to apply their expertise to national priorities, including energy security, environmental protection and economic diversification.

Beyond professional achievements, Omani Women’s Day recognises women’s enduring contributions to families and communities, particularly in nurturing future generations, preserving social values and strengthening social cohesion.

As Oman advances towards the goals of Vision 2040, the theme She Is Oman sends a message to younger generations that women’s ambitions and capabilities are integral to the country’s progress.

Ultimately, the celebration honours Omani women as custodians of heritage, contributors to the present and partners in shaping the nation’s future — reflecting a commitment to a more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous Oman.
