Muscat – H H Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat, chaired on Tuesday the meeting of the Muscat Municipal Council, which discussed a number of key service, health, environmental and development issues across the governorate.

The council reviewed regulations governing worker accommodation at construction sites located within residential neighbourhoods, with the Permanent Legal Affairs Committee examining the social and health implications of the practice and its potential impact on residential communities.

The committee stressed the need to review the existing regulations and requirements to strike a balance between the operational needs of construction projects and the safety, comfort and well-being of residents.

The council also reviewed a proposal for the reconstruction of Quriyat Hospital to meet the requirements arising from the wilayat’s population growth and urban expansion.

The proposed project is intended to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve the quality of health services provided to residents.

The council also discussed the latest developments in waste management in Muscat Municipality, including the efficiency of collection and transportation operations, compliance with designated schedules and community awareness efforts.

The Permanent Health and Environmental Affairs Committee said improving these areas would contribute to higher standards of public cleanliness while reducing associated environmental and health impacts.

The Directorate General of Health Services for Muscat governorate presented an overview of healthcare services and programmes provided in the governorate, including performance indicators, completed development projects and healthcare projects included in development plans.

The presentation also covered maintenance and development works and efforts to strengthen public health and community services.

Particular emphasis was placed on preventive healthcare and community health initiatives aimed at improving quality of life and reducing health risk factors.

The Permanent Committee for the Development of the Governorate reviewed proposals aimed at diversifying facilities and activities in Al Amerat, including a proposed project for motorcycle enthusiasts.

The initiative was discussed as part of efforts to expand recreational facilities and support the development of the wilayat.

The council also reviewed a number of proposals concerning the protection of sites with natural value and planning uses linked to community needs, stressing the importance of addressing them in line with service and development priorities while preserving the governorate’s natural assets.

The council approved the minutes of its previous meeting and recommendations concerning the Ministry of Social Development’s 2026 plan, commending efforts to strengthen social programmes and initiatives serving different beneficiary groups and supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
