Muscat– Oman recorded around 14,012 tonnes of squid landings in 2025, with artisanal fishing accounting for more than 90% of the total, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Artisanal fishermen landed 12,741 tonnes, while coastal fishing accounted for 767 tonnes and commercial fishing 504 tonnes. No squid landings were recorded from aquaculture.

Al Wusta recorded the highest artisanal squid landings at 4,459 tonnes, followed by Dhofar with 4,258 tonnes and South Sharqiyah with 2,343 tonnes.

Al Batinah North and South together recorded 1,441 tonnes, while Muscat recorded 155 tonnes and Musandam 92 tonnes.

Oman exported squid worth approximately RO4.47 mnin 2025, with shipments weighing 4.53 mn kg sent to 19 countries.

Vietnam was the largest destination, receiving Omani squid worth RO2.12 mn, followed by China at RO588,930 and Malaysia at RO394,670.

Meanwhile, Oman imported squid worth around RO617,468, weighing 484,512kg.

Yemen was the largest source of imports at RO209,409, followed by China at RO209,230 and the United Arab Emirates at RO137,292. The figures highlight the dominant role of artisanal fishing in Oman’s squid industry and the continued demand for Omani squid in international markets, particularly in Asia.
