Muscat – Muscat Municipality has completed around 95km of internal roads across Muscat governorate since the beginning of 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to improve road network efficiency, traffic flow and road safety.

The projects have been implemented across several wilayats to keep pace with urban expansion and population growth and improve connections between residential neighbourhoods and essential services.

Of the roads completed this year, 27km are inBausher, 22km in Amerat, 20km in Seeb, 17km in Quriyat and 9km in Muscat.

By the middle of 2026, the total length of asphalt roads in Muscat governorate reached around 5,972km, including 584km of main roads and 5,388km of secondary and internal roads.

Alongside new road construction, the municipality carried out maintenance and rehabilitation works covering more than 70,000sqmsince the beginning of the year.

The works, implemented under road maintenance projects covering Seeb, Bausher, Muttrah, Muscat, Al Amerat and Quriyat, included pothole repairs, reconstruction, rehabilitation of asphalt and sub-base layers, and maintenance or replacement of concrete barriers, pavements and side protections.

The municipality also carried out preventive and emergency maintenance of road assets and removed fallen rocks from mountain protection areas, in addition to constructing and maintaining concrete roads.

Work is also progressing on two projects for the design and construction of internal roads in Al Amerat, covering 26km, of which 14km have been completed. The projects cover areas including Al Nahda City, Al Amerat Heights, Jahlout, Saiya and Khawrat.

The current programme builds on the municipality’s road development work in previous years. Around 143km of roads were completed in 2025, compared to 141km in 2024.
