New York –  Oman took part in two joint ministerial meetings between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Switzerland and France in New York, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Oman was represented at both meetings by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qatbi, Ambassador and Head of the International Organisations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The GCC-Switzerland meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the GCC states and Switzerland across areas of mutual interest, while also reviewing key regional and international developments.

The two sides exchanged views on efforts to promote security and stability and stressed the importance of dialogue, international cooperation and multilateral action in addressing common challenges.

The GCC-France meeting focused on relations and partnership between the GCC states and France, with discussions covering ways to enhance cooperation and expand collaboration in areas of shared interest.

Participants also reviewed regional and international developments and exchanged views on issues of common concern, including efforts to support security and stability and promote diplomatic solutions to current crises and challenges.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued consultation and coordination and closer cooperation to serve shared interests and contribute to regional and international security and peace.

Oman’s participation in the meetings came as part of the GCC’s engagement with international partners during the UN General Assembly and highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomatic cooperation in addressing regional and global challenges.
