International experts meet to advance global standards for dates

Muscat – Delegations from member states gathered in Oman to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering financial sustainability and advancing global quality specifications for the international date industry.

Central to the meeting’s agenda was a detailed review of member countries’ financial contributions to ensure the long-term operational sustainability of the Council. Participants also evaluated a landmark United Nations report on date specifications, opening technical discussions to review and modernize international standards for date palm products.

To streamline ongoing technical research, delegates discussed a comprehensive proposal to reform the Council’s specialized committees. The proposed framework outlines updated membership criteria, refined nomination and selection procedures, and defined operational guidelines designed to boost committee effectiveness in delivering high-impact technical studies, recommendations, and international standards.

By hosting the summit, Oman highlighted its commitment to fostering international cooperation across the date palm sector. The gathering serves as a vital platform for exchanging expertise, driving sustainable agricultural development, and enhancing global food security while boosting the market competitiveness of the date industry.
