Muscat – Omani boxers could gain greater access to professional contests across Asia and the Middle East following a new international partnership unveiled around the third edition of SPARK Fighting Championship in Muscat.

The event, held at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, brought together 24 fighters from Oman and abroad across 12 bouts supervised by accredited international referees.

Organised in cooperation with Scorpionest Martial Arts Academy and Sabco Sports, Spark 3 comes as the championship strengthens its international links through a strategic partnership with Highland Boxing Promotion.

Organisers said the championship has also received official accreditation from the World Boxing Association, a development they expect will help Omani fighters build recognised professional records and gain access to international competition.

The partnership with Highland is intended to create a pathway connecting fighters in Oman with promotions and opponents across the Middle East and Asia.

Plans under discussion include fighter exchanges, international matchmaking, joint promotions and professional boxing and Muay Thai events in Oman and overseas.

For local athletes, the significance extends beyond another fight card.

Many emerging fighters compete mainly on the domestic circuit, making access to recognised international bouts, professional records and experienced opponents crucial to developing careers in the sport.

Highland Boxing Promotion is involved in professional Boxing and Muay Thai events across Asia and the Middle East and has links with international fight networks.

Its collaboration with Spark and Scorpionest is expected to facilitate cross-border fight cards and provide Omani athletes with opportunities to compete at established events outside the sultanate.

Organisers said Spark was designed not only as a competition but also as a platform to identify and develop local talent and build a larger audience for boxing and martial arts in Oman.

The third edition marks another step in efforts to build a more structured professional combat sports scene in the country, where boxing and mixed martial arts have gained greater visibility in recent years.

The partnership also envisages bringing more international fighters to Oman, potentially giving local competitors stronger opposition without having to travel abroad.

For Omani boxers seeking to move from domestic contests into professional competition, the organisers hope Spark can increasingly serve as a bridge to the wider fight circuit – connecting Muscat with rings across Asia and the Middle East.
