Muscat – Environment Authority (EA) has announced a formal decision to suspend the issuance of import permits for all shark species and their parts for a period of six months, effective from July 29, 2026, until January 29, 2027.

This temporary measure applies to all shark types, including those listed under the appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) as well as unlisted species.

According to the Authority, this initiative forms part of a wider effort to reorganize regulatory procedures regarding sharks, ensuring full compliance with national legislation and the provisions outlined in the CITES Convention.
