Muscat – Environment Authority (EA) has detailed a comprehensive national response strategy to manage oil spill emergencies and safeguard marine and coastal environments.

Oil contamination poses severe environmental, health, and economic threats, including the pollution of sea waters, degradation of marine habitats, injury or mortality of marine wildlife such as fish, birds, turtles, and coral reefs, as well as significant damage to fisheries and local tourism.

In response, the Environment Authority activates emergency plans, coordinates closely with relevant specialized entities, evaluates spill volumes using advanced field monitoring technologies, and directly supervises pollution containment operations.

Furthermore, officials emphasize that public cooperation is vital; citizens and residents are strongly advised to stay away from contaminated areas, avoid swimming in polluted waters, refrain from attempting independent cleanup efforts, and immediately report any oil patches or marine wildlife mortality through official channels while strictly adhering to authorized guidelines.
