Muscat – Perched 2,000 metres above sea level on Oman’s iconic Green Mountain Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar Resort & Spa continues to advance sustainable hospitality through environmentally conscious practices deeply connected to the surrounding neighbourhood and local community.

Blending meaningful guest experiences with responsible operations, the resort has embedded sustainability into everyday practices, creating a hospitality model that prioritises environmental stewardship while reflecting the spirit of Jabal Akhdar.

A key initiative includes the resort’s in-house water bottling plant, supplying guests with drinking water in sterilised glass bottles and the resort has eliminated all single-use plastics. The resort has saved over 100 thousand plastic bottles overall since opening and its growing daily.

Sustainability extends to culinary operations through thoughtful measures designed to reduce environmental impact while maintaining high hygiene standards. The resort has eliminated individually packaged condiments, which has prevented over 2.5 million miniature glass jars from being sent to landfill. Waste has been further minimized through the use of eco-friendly, biodegradable sugarcane straws, replacing traditional plastic alternatives.

Further reinforcing its environmental responsibility, the resort operates an in-house Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), enabling treated water to be repurposed for landscape irrigation and shared with neighbouring villages. This initiative not only supports water conservation but also strengthens meaningful ties with the local community.

Energy efficiency remains central to the resort’s sustainability strategy. The property utilises 100% LED lighting throughout its facilities, complemented by advanced lighting control systems that adapt to natural daylight patterns to optimise energy consumption. Additionally, motion sensor technology installed in operational areas helps reduce unnecessary energy usage by activating lighting only when spaces are occupied.

Innovation also plays a role in the resort’s environmental initiatives. Through creative recycling programmes, the engineering team transforms repurposed materials into buffet displays, decorative installations, and seasonal creations, giving discarded items a second life while adding a distinctive character to guest experiences.

Recognising these efforts, Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar Resort & Spa proudly holds a Level 1 Green Engage Certification, reflecting its commitment to responsible hospitality practices and continuous environmental improvement.

As IHG Hotels & Resorts’ first Hotel Indigo resort in the region, the property continues to redefine luxury hospitality by demonstrating that memorable guest experiences and sustainability can coexist seamlessly.

At Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar Resort & Spa, sustainability is more than an initiative it is an ongoing commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Oman’s Green Mountain while creating positive impact for guests, communities, and future generations.
