Muscat – Oman is set to become a formal member of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) starting next year.

As a specialised body affiliated with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), SMIIC focuses on the harmonisation of standards and the strengthening of cooperation in metrology, accreditation, and quality among its member states.

This strategic membership is expected to support Oman by facilitating the participation in the development of standards for Islamic countries and fostering the exchange of technical expertise.

Furthermore, the initiative will play a crucial role in harmonising halal standards, developing halal accreditation systems, and streamlining the flow of goods and products across Islamic markets. By supporting mutual recognition and conformity assessment, Oman aims to enhance its integration and collaborative efforts within the regional and international economic landscape.
