Muscat Municipality warns against stray livestock

7 Jul 2026 Muscat Municipality warns against stray livestock By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Muscat Municipality has launched a public awareness campaign urging livestock owners to prevent their animals from roaming freely in residential neighbourhoods, stressing that stray livestock pose a significant risk to road safety, public health and the quality of life in local communities.

The municipality warned that allowing sheep, goats and other livestock to wander through residential areas can lead to traffic accidents, obstruct roads and damage public and private property. Stray animals may also create unhygienic conditions and pose risks to both motorists and pedestrians, particularly in busy neighbourhoods.

As part of the campaign, Muscat Municipality called on livestock owners to keep their animals in secure enclosures and ensure they are properly monitored at all times. Responsible livestock management, the municipality said, is essential for protecting both the animals and the wider community.

The municipality also encouraged residents to cooperate by reporting incidents involving stray livestock to the relevant authorities, helping officials respond quickly and prevent potential accidents.

The campaign is part of Muscat Municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve public safety, preserve the city’s appearance and promote a cleaner, safer urban environment. Officials emphasised that preventing livestock from roaming freely is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of animal owners and the cooperation of the community to ensure safe roads and orderly residential areas
