Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has launched a platform called Turs (Shield) – a new national digital system aimed at strengthening Oman’s cyber protection framework and improving preparedness to tackle emerging digital threats.

The platform is part of the TRA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the sultanate’s digital security ecosystem and create a safer, more reliable online environment in line with rapid technological advancements and the growing digital economy.

Designed as a centralised platform, Tars enables authorities to manage, monitor and track reports related to cyber fraud and other digital risks. It employs advanced technologies to receive and analyse reports, identify fraud patterns, monitor suspicious online activity and support rapid decision-making through integrated coordination with relevant government entities.

The platform monitors a broad range of online threats, including suspicious local and international phone numbers, malicious websites, phishing emails, fake or abusive social media accounts and misleading digital content. It also tracks online material that violates societal values, enabling authorities to take swift and effective action.

Turs provides individuals and organisations with a single reporting channel for suspicious online activities, helping to improve the speed and efficiency of cyber incident detection and response while enhancing cooperation between the public and relevant authorities.

According to the TRA, the platform represents another step in supporting Oman’s digital transformation agenda by reinforcing cybersecurity readiness, improving digital governance and enhancing trust in online services.

The authority said the initiative is expected to strengthen the resilience of the sultanate’s digital infrastructure, support the growth of a secure digital economy and further improve Oman’s international standing in cybersecurity and digital trust.
