Azerbaijan and Oman share fundamental principles of foreign policy: respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, dialogue, moderation and mutually beneficial cooperation. These values provide a strong foundation for deeper engagement across many sectors, says H E Rashad Ismayilov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Oman
Muscat – In today’s rapidly changing world, lasting international partnerships are built not only on diplomacy, but on mutual trust, shared interests and a common vision for the future. The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Sultanate of Oman are excellent examples of two friendly nations whose relationship continues to evolve into a modern strategic partnership.
Our bilateral relations have gained remarkable momentum in recent years. The opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Muscat marked a new chapter, strengthening political dialogue, expanding institutional cooperation and creating fresh opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, culture and education.
Our countries share fundamental principles of foreign policy: respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, dialogue, moderation and mutually beneficial cooperation. These values provide a strong foundation for deeper engagement across many sectors.
Today, both Azerbaijan and Oman are implementing ambitious national development agendas. Oman Vision 2040 and Azerbaijan’s long-term socio-economic strategy both seek diversified, innovation-driven and sustainable economies. Their shared priorities – including private-sector growth, logistics, renewable energy, digital transformation and human capital – create a natural platform for cooperation.
Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has become an important transport, logistics and energy hub linking Europe and Asia through the Middle Corridor, the Port of Baku, the Alat Free Economic Zone and modern railway infrastructure. Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, continues to strengthen its position as a global logistics gateway through the ports of Duqm, Suhar and Salalah.
Closer cooperation between these transport ecosystems would strengthen regional connectivity, diversify supply chains and create new commercial opportunities linking the Gulf, the South Caucasus, Central Asia and Europe.
Energy remains another pillar of our partnership. Azerbaijan has long contributed to international energy security and is now investing heavily in renewable energy and green electricity. Oman has emerged as a regional leader in green hydrogen and clean-energy development. Combining expertise, investment and technology could create mutually beneficial projects supporting the global energy transition.
Investment also offers enormous opportunities. Azerbaijan provides a stable macroeconomic environment, modern legislation, industrial parks and free economic zones, while Oman offers world-class infrastructure, investor-friendly policies and a dynamic private sector. Stronger interaction between sovereign wealth funds, investment agencies, chambers of commerce and leading companies can unlock new projects in manufacturing, healthcare, food security, logistics, tourism and digital technologies.
Tourism is another promising field. Oman captivates visitors with its landscapes, heritage and hospitality, while Azerbaijan offers the Caspian coast, mountain resorts, wellness tourism and a rich multicultural history. Enhanced promotion and improved connectivity would significantly increase visitor flows between our countries.
Agriculture and food security deserve equal attention. Azerbaijan’s agricultural potential and Oman’s strategic investment priorities create favourable conditions for joint ventures in food production, agribusiness, agricultural technologies and sustainable farming.
Business-to-business engagement should become one of the principal drivers of bilateral relations. Oman’s respected enterprises and Azerbaijan’s expanding investment opportunities can transform political goodwill into tangible economic success.
People-to-people contacts remain equally important. Academic exchanges, innovation partnerships, youth cooperation and cultural dialogue strengthen mutual understanding and ensure that future generations continue building upon today’s achievements.
As Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Sultanate of Oman, I have witnessed the genuine goodwill that characterises our relations. I firmly believe that forthcoming high-level exchanges and growing business dialogue will elevate our partnership to a new level, opening the door to new agreements, greater investment and broader cooperation.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Muscat will continue facilitating dialogue, encouraging investment, promoting business partnerships and strengthening ties between our governments and peoples.
The friendship between Azerbaijan and Oman is built on confidence, respect and shared aspirations. Today, that friendship is steadily evolving into a comprehensive strategic partnership that will contribute not only to the prosperity of our two nations but also to regional connectivity, sustainable development and long-term stability. I am confident that the best chapters of Azerbaijan–Oman relations are still ahead of us.
