Jalan Bani Bu Hassan – The Natural Shrimp Aquaculture Company in Qurun, Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, South Sharqiyah, is aiming to produce 3,200 tonnes of white shrimp this year as Oman continues to expand its aquaculture industry and strengthen food security.

According to Badr bin Nasser Al Rasbi, Farm Manager, the company had produced around 1,000 tonnes by the end of last week, with operations progressing in line with the approved annual production plan and operational programmes.

The company adheres to international aquaculture standards and has been certified under Global Good Agricultural Practices since 2024. It also holds ISO 22000 certification for food safety and has implemented systems to minimise health and food-related risks, reinforcing the quality and reliability of its products.

Looking ahead, the company plans to raise production by up to 175% from current levels over the coming years. It is also seeking to enter new overseas markets, including Europe, South Korea and China, while continuing to meet demand in the domestic market.

The company is pursuing a strategy of supporting industrial localisation by increasing the presence of Omani seafood products and developing value-added offerings that broaden product choices in local and regional markets.

Aquaculture is emerging as one of the most promising sectors in South Sharqiyah, generating economic and investment opportunities, diversifying food sources and supporting industries linked to fisheries resources in line with Oman’s sustainable economic development objectives.
