First Oman-made EV charging ecosystem launched

27 Jun 2026 First Oman-made EV charging ecosystem launched By TRIDWIP K DAS

Muscat – Government efforts to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles are translating into numbers, with more than 5,900 EVs registered in the sultanate in the first half of 2026. According to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the national charging network has expanded to over 160 charging points, with plans to increase that number to 350 by 2027.

However, as new charging stations are installed in shopping centres, hotels and residential complexes across Muscat, EV drivers continue to navigate a fragmented ecosystem, dealing with multiple apps, confusing interfaces and foreign software that are not always compatible with local bank cards.

To facilitate the seamless integration of Oman’s EV ecosystem, Muscat AI Solutions has launched a locally developed platform. By introducing its EV Group App alongside an intelligent backend system called EV Group Charge, the company has created Oman’s first unified Charger Management System (CMS), simplifying the charging experience for EV drivers while providing businesses and fleet operators a smart, locally supported platform to manage charging stations efficiently and reliably.

Having launched the EV Group App in 2025 to integrate Oman’s EV infrastructure, Muscat AI Solutions introduced EV Group Charge earlier this month.

Hussain Al Lawati, CEO of Muscat AI Solutions, said the EV Group App “completely reimagines the local driving experience” for EV users.

“Instead of guessing where to go or battling complicated menus, drivers can use the app to effortlessly plan their journeys. The app seamlessly locates nearby charging stations and automatically maps routes based on the vehicle’s live battery status,” he said.

The CMS is designed to integrate directly with Oman’s local banking network, enabling smooth and secure payments without the transaction issues commonly associated with imported software.

For property managers, fuel retailers and commercial fleet operators, EV Group Charge addresses the challenge of keeping chargers operational without overloading the local power grid. It is built on the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), which acts as a universal translator, allowing station owners to connect and manage chargers from “almost any international manufacturer through a single, central dashboard”, Al Lawati said.

The locally designed system also gives station owners real-time control, eliminating the need to rely on technical support teams operating remotely from overseas. It includes built-in “smart charging” technology that automatically balances power demand. When multiple vehicles are plugged in simultaneously during peak periods, the software dynamically manages the electrical load, protecting transformers and ensuring a safe, stable charge for every vehicle without overloading the grid.

Al Lawati described the home-grown ecosystem as “a game-changer for local charger suppliers and electrical installers”. Earlier, installing a charger was largely a one-time transaction. Now, local installers can bundle their hardware with the OCPP-compliant EV Group Charge software, enabling them to provide ongoing remote support to commercial and residential customers and transform a single product sale into a long-term managed service.

Additionally, owing to the entire CMS framework being engineered in Muscat, it can be readily adapted to new national and regional requirements, including upcoming public charging tariffs when official regulations are updated.

“As the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology continues to push towards sustainable transport targets, having locally owned technology becomes a matter of national resilience,” said Ali Chenani, CTO of Muscat AI Solutions.

“By keeping both the software and the engineering local, Muscat AI isn’t just making EV driving easier today, it is building the digital foundation to keep Oman moving sustainably for decades to come,” Chenani added.
