Muscat – Muscat Municipality has launched a public awareness campaign highlighting the consequences of vandalising playground equipment in parks and public spaces, warning that such behaviour threatens children’s safety and undermines community facilities.

Under the slogan ‘Vandalism of playground equipment leads to several negative impacts’, the campaign outlines the social, economic and safety consequences of damaging recreational facilities. These include depriving children of safe places to play, increasing the risk of injuries and accidents, damaging the appearance of public spaces, raising maintenance and repair costs, encouraging a culture of neglect and reducing public use of parks and recreational areas.

The initiative comes as Muscat continues to invest in the development of parks, playgrounds and community facilities as part of wider efforts to enhance quality of life and promote healthy lifestyles among residents.

Municipality officials stressed that preserving public amenities is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation from all members of society.

They noted that playgrounds are designed to provide children with safe and enjoyable environments for physical activity and social interaction. Damage to swings, slides and other equipment not only results in financial losses but can also expose users to serious safety risks.

Residents have been urged to report incidents of vandalism and encourage responsible behaviour among children and young people. The municipality emphasised that protecting public property helps ensure community facilities remain safe, accessible and attractive for all.
