Muscat – The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, through the Endowment Health Foundation (Athar), have launched the second edition of an initiative to provide medical treatment for eligible zakat beneficiaries in the private healthcare sector.
Registration for treatment requests will open in early July and continue until mid-August for zakat beneficiaries registered with the MERA. Treatment procedures are scheduled to begin in early September.
The initiative is being implemented in line with the Royal Directive of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to allocate funds for the treatment of individuals eligible to receive zakat assistance.
The Royal Directive aim to support eligible beneficiaries while reinforcing the spirit of social solidarity and community participation, which are deeply rooted values in Omani society. The initiative also underscores the importance of promoting welfare, enhancing quality of life, reducing healthcare disparities and improving access to medical services across different segments of society.
The programme will cover surgical procedures and diagnostic imaging services at private hospitals across all governorates of Oman. It is intended to accelerate treatment, ease pressure on referral hospitals and help reduce waiting lists for specialised healthcare services.
