Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) has dismantled a cross-border drug trafficking network and arrested two Asian nationals in North Batinah in an operation launched following intelligence received from Bahrain.
According to the ROP, the tip-off led Omani security agencies to track the activities of the criminal network operating across several countries.
Surveillance teams monitored the suspects’ movements and vehicles in North Batinah before identifying their involvement in receiving, distributing and attempting to smuggle narcotic substances to a neighbouring country.
The suspects were arrested before the drugs could be transported out of Oman.
ROP said officers seized more than 150 bags of crystal methamphetamine and over 1,000 morphine capsules during the operation. The estimated value of the seized narcotics is approximately RO500,000.
Authorities described the case as an example of the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and international security cooperation in combating organised crime and drug trafficking networks.
A senior ROP officer said the successful operation highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing between law enforcement agencies in different countries.
“Security intelligence is not merely information; it is a critical factor in preventing drugs from reaching our youth,” the officer said.
He added that the exchange of information between relevant authorities strengthens efforts to combat transnational criminal networks and enhances the ability of law enforcement agencies to protect communities from the dangers of narcotics.
The ROP reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and organised crime, stressing that regional cooperation remains a key tool in disrupting criminal networks and safeguarding society.
