Award to give big push to Oman’s creative economy

7 Jun 2026 Award to give big push to Oman’s creative economy By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Cultural Club on Sunday launched the inaugural edition of the Sayroura Award for Creative Cultural Industries 2026, a new initiative aimed at supporting innovative Omani cultural ideas and helping transform them into sustainable projects that contribute to the country’s creative economy.

The award is designed to encourage Omani creators to develop cultural concepts with practical and economic potential, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 to diversify the economy and strengthen the role of culture in national development.

Dr Mohammed bin Ali Al Balushi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Club, said the award reflects the club’s commitment to promoting culture as a productive sector capable of contributing to economic and social progress.

He said the initiative targets ideas that are still in the conceptual stage and does not accept projects that have already been implemented. The objective, he added, is to identify promising cultural concepts, support their creators and help them develop projects that combine cultural value with feasibility and long-term sustainability.

The award covers a wide range of creative sectors, including literary and cultural content, digital cultural platforms, visual arts and design, performing and musical arts, heritage and cultural identity, cultural technologies, innovative community initiatives and applications offering cultural and technological solutions.

Three winners will each receive a prize of RO1,000. In addition to the cash awards, the winning ideas will be promoted through the Cultural Club’s media platforms and introduced to cultural institutions and supporting organisations. The club said its role will focus on advocacy, promotion and connecting winners with relevant stakeholders rather than directly financing project implementation.

Participation is open to Omani citizens, including independent creators, writers, artists, designers, content producers, craftspeople, cultural entrepreneurs, students and graduates. Applicants must present ideas that demonstrate clear cultural value, feasibility and sustainability.

Submissions opened on Sunday and will remain open until September. Evaluation and judging will take place during October and November, with the winners to be announced and honoured at an official ceremony in December 2026.
