Muscat – As freelancing continues to gain momentum worldwide amid rapid digital transformation and the rise of the digital economy, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) will organise a forum on freelancing on June 9, bringing together government entities, supporting institutions and freelance professionals to discuss the future of independent work in the sultanate.

The forum aims to highlight the regulatory and legislative environment governing freelancing in Oman, while showcasing the programmes, initiatives and incentives available to support self-employed professionals. It will also provide a platform to discuss the key challenges and opportunities associated with this increasingly important mode of work.

Speaking ahead of the event, Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI, said the forum reflects the chamber’s commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at enhancing labour market flexibility and enabling Omani talent to benefit from opportunities created by the digital economy and evolving work models.

“Freelancing has become an important contributor to the national economy and an effective tool for creating self-generated income opportunities while fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation,” he said.

Al Rawas noted that OCCI views freelancing as one of the most promising career pathways aligned with the rapid transformations taking place in global labour markets. “It offers a valuable avenue for leveraging national skills and expertise, while opening new opportunities for young people and entrepreneurs to market their services and access local, regional and international markets through digital platforms,” he added.

The forum will explore the role of digital platforms in supporting and expanding freelance work, the skills required for success in the sector, and emerging opportunities driven by digital transformation and the knowledge-based economy. Participants will also hear from Omani freelancers who will share their experiences and success stories.

An interactive workshop will be held alongside the forum, bringing participants together in working groups to discuss challenges facing the sector and propose practical solutions for strengthening the freelancing ecosystem.
