Salalah  – The Environment Authority (EA) in Dhofar governorate launched on Tuesday a field campaign to prune wild trees in the wilayats of Mirbat, Taqah and Salalah in cooperation with the Waie volunteer team and members of the local community.

The campaign aims to preserve long-lived trees, improve their health and enhance the sustainability of plant cover across the governorate as part of ongoing efforts to protect Dhofar’s unique natural environment.

The pruning operations focus on removing damaged and dry branches, reducing the spread of diseases and promoting healthier growth of wild trees. The initiative also seeks to preserve ecological balance and support biodiversity in the governorate.

Officials from the Environment Authority said the campaign reflects the importance of community partnership in environmental conservation and highlights growing public awareness of the need to protect natural resources.

Volunteers from Waie and local residents are assisting field teams in carrying out pruning work and monitoring the condition of trees in targeted areas.

Dhofar is known for its rich vegetation and diverse wild tree species, which contribute significantly to the governorate’s environmental and tourism appeal. Long-lived trees are considered an important part of the region’s natural heritage and require continuous care and protection.

The campaign also includes awareness activities aimed at promoting sustainable environmental practices and encouraging community participation in preserving green spaces for future generations.

The authority affirmed that similar initiatives will continue in different parts of Dhofar as part of broader efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability and preserve the governorate’s natural ecosystems.
