5 May 2026 Eid livestock market guidelines Muscat Oman By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Muscat Municipality has intensified preparations for Eid Al Adha, rolling out a comprehensive set of regulations to govern the sale of sacrificial animals and festive goods at designated habta markets across the governorate.

The move is part of the municipality’s efforts to ensure public safety, streamline market operations and enhance the overall shopping experience during one of the busiest periods of the year.

Under the new guidelines, vendors are required to operate strictly within approved locations, with roadside and random selling prohibited. The regulations also stress that livestock must be sourced and displayed in line with established health and safety standards. Maintaining cleanliness at all market sites is mandatory.

Sellers should obtain the necessary permits and carry valid identification cards throughout the trading period. Authorities have also underscored that only authorised tents and designated spaces will be allowed for commercial activity.

To prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement within market areas, non-permitted vehicles will not be allowed entry, and vendors must adhere to their allocated spaces. Livestock owners have been instructed not to display animals outside designated enclosures or on public roads.

The municipality further requires vendors to prepare their stalls in advance, ensuring readiness at least five days before the start of habta activities. Slaughtering of animals at market sites is strictly prohibited, with such activities limited to approved facilities.

Muscat Municipality said these measures are aimed at balancing the preservation of traditional Eid markets with modern regulatory standards, ensuring a safe, organised and accessible environment for residents.

Officials have called on vendors and the public to comply fully with the guidelines, noting that cooperation will help maintain public health standards and facilitate a smooth and orderly market experience during the festive season.
